ROMANCE & LOVE

January 26, 2012

I wrote this piece a little while back while thinking of my own memory collections with romance and love, as well as the experience of my close friends. A break up is a beautiful realization that the only commonality two people shared was love and everything in between was a lesson.

ALT MAGAZINE

November 19, 2011

A few months ago, my old friend Russell Neill from New Zealand asked to cite my work in one of his fashion design and photography projects. Last week he sent me a link to the final product and I couldn’t be happier!

Russell incorporated two of my poetry pieces into his fashion story. The outcome is a project which holds depth, creativity and drama. I love it a lot and have decided to post his work on my site, enjoy!

THE ROAD TO DIAMONDS

October 31, 2011 — 1 Comment

The Road to Diamonds I wrote while I was in Europe a month ago, I was staying at a place called Damanhur, out in the beautiful north Italian countryside. In this special place I met people who have had major awakenings in their lives and, like me, were traveling in search of the ultimate truth. In this lifetime search of mine, I have been so many different people, truly transformed many times over, it was an amazing experience to hear others’ stories about their unique journeys that etched them into the beautiful beings they’ve become.

When I returned to London, I bought the bi-annual English fashion magazine: LOVE, in it I found a very unusual photography story called ‘A Touch of Enchantment’, where an old woman with visibly wrinkled hands was adorned with the most beautiful diamonds and precious stones. I knew this was the story for my poem. The woman was aged and refined, wearing the purest form of tangible energy, it’s a visually beautiful juxtaposition.

With this poem I aim to inspire people to own what they have and what they were born with, own it and then realize that they have the power to refine it to its purest form.

With love, Alissa.

528

October 24, 2011

528 is a poem I wrote for Love Brigade, a Brooklyn based fashion brand that I have grown to love. They are going to use this piece in their upcoming newsletter, until then, you can check them out at www.lovebrigade.com

This poem encompasses the idea of living love having a ‘flow’, a ‘current’ that is constantly streaming. I portray this using imagery of a vivid, full, dripping red heart posted up on ‘my wall’ for everyone to see. In the last stanza I link the flow of liquid to music and reveal that the in order to create, one must hear the sound of love, scientifically proven to have the frequency of 528Hz.

A BROOKLYN BEAT

September 26, 2011

Last month, my good friend and talented photographer, Ana Mantilla invited me to spend the day with her at the Empire Fulton Ferry State Park, between the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges in Brooklyn. The place itself is strikingly beautiful and was the perfect setting for this impromptu photo shoot in our home city.

The verse I composed for this photography is the Brooklyn sister to the last post about Manhattan. As in the last poem ‘A Breath of Manhattan’, the first letter of each line spells Brooklyn.

‘A Brooklyn Beat’ portrays my feelings about living in Williamsburg and its unparalleled sights, sounds and souls.

A BREATH OF MANHATTAN

August 2, 2011

In the current issue of Flaunt Magazine, I found this incredible editorial photographed in NYC. This poem, I feel is in direct correlation to the photographer’s (Randal Slavin) vision and portrayal of New York. I reveal that in this place you can make it ‘by the skin of your teeth’ if you take a bite of the addictive poison apple and play the Empire’s loveless game. When the poem is written on its own, you will find that if you take the first letter of each line, it spells Manhattan.

THE CHARMER

July 19, 2011

In the July 2011 issue of Interview Magazine, you will find this lavishly styled ‘Heaven Snake’ spread. Here, you have found my interpretation of the artist’s vision in the form of an introduction to the photography.

NYLON NYX

June 25, 2011 — 1 Comment

You can find the ‘Nylon Slick’ fashion spread in the March 2011 issue of Interview Magazine. I renamed the title and wrote the poem in the style of Interview, with three parts: as an introduction to the spread, one word ‘characteristic’ lines within the images, and a conclusion portraying the power of ‘Nyx’, the Goddess of the night.

POWER

June 14, 2011

I was inspired to write this ‘Power’ piece on the images of Giorgio Armani’s Spring/Summer Collection 2011 ‘La Femme Bleau’. As featured in Interview Magazine. I felt as though the words and images belong together.

The black and white photography adds conviction to the polarities within the poem.  My purpose is to lead the reader to believe that power is all that is beautiful. Only in the last two lines, I reveal that power is merely one perception and that humility is just as beautiful.

UP YOUR VOLUME

May 13, 2011

She’s past the point of laughter,

No longer entertainment,

Deemed homeless, crazy, maybe high,

Sitting out on cold, wet pavement.

Swinging her wild arms, wild arms.

Creating some inaudible music,

Conducting her imaginary orchestra.

If you gave her a hand, I don’t think she’d use it.

Happy in her freedom from the rules,

And why can’t we sing out loud if we want to?

The price is fear of scolding stares.

Turn up your volume, she paid for you.
